Soixante-neuf today! (15th)

Oh well, another one down = one less to go (to oblivion - and beyond?).

Don't know why I'm smiling so smugly above. It was taken yesterday when I'd just got home from doctor following my regular six-monthly diabetes (type 2) check, and where I'd learnt that my constantly high blood-sugar level was giving rise to concern. So now got to do a daily self-administered blood check - and this for someone who feels like flaking out at the mere sight of the red stuff. That's one prezzie I could have done without. Bad enough when it's someone else's blood but when it's your own.......! I'll try hard not to swoon away, though should I do so it will be in most demure and maiden-like fashion. True that the procedure only involves a little pin-prick but, as some of you are well aware from experience, even the tiniest of pricks can be very uncomfortable too. Let's hope I can avoid having a spell of the screaming(-queen) habdabs.

  1. Happy birthday. If I were you, I'd stay 69 for a few years, just for the comedy aspect.

As for the blood... a tiny prick may save you life.

    1. Thanks ever so much, Stephen. It would be such unimaginable delight to remain in the 69 position for as long as one wants. Alas, life moves one on inevitably to a far less pleasurable state.
As for having a daily prick, well I can think of worse things - while, if it had been in another sense, it couldn't have gotten any better! However, that's not to be. (Sigh!)

    1. Ah, the memories, A.M., the memories!
Thank you for your kind wish - and you might like to know that I've just given myself practically the best b/day present anyone can ever have - Two, yes TWO, fried egg sandwiches! Am I not the lucky one?

    3. Cheddar would be less of a problem than finding me some bacon, A.M. How about some chopped onions and a dash of curry powder instead? Mmmm MMMMM!

    5. I'm still wanting to please, A.M. As you know this is a no-meat zone EXCEPT for pussy food. I could always mix a tiny touch of that in for you. ;-)

    1. You may not believe it, RTG, but I actually HAD remembered that you and I shared the same celebratory day. I was going to weave it into my blog above but then thought that it might be presumptuous of me, not knowing whether you preferred not to make a splash. Anyway, now that you've acknowledged it yourself, I must congratulate you in return and wish you too a most happiness-filled day and a particularly wonderful year ahead. (You spring chicken, you!)

    1. No big deal, Walt (I see that you did actually post it last night - well, Eastern Pacific time, or whatever), but very many thanks anyway.

No blood-letting yet 'cos I can't get the damn lancet device to work - and I'm in no great hurry to find out what I'm doing wrong.

  8. Darn it! My comment didn't post yesterday! Sorry, Ray! Happy (belated) birthday!

You have a whole year to tell charming gentlemen "I'm sixty-nine. Would you like to know what sixty-nine feels like?"

    Hugs and spanks

    1. Your wishes as much appreciated as they ever are, S/b, which is a whole LOT, despite the 'hiccup'.
I was wanting to post something from the internet illustrating an example of a '69' but found that there's so much there that's not suitable for my followers' delicate minds. I'm the last person who'd want to be corrupting them! ;-)

      'Ta' for your thoughts again.

  9. Ray, I'm so sorry that I missed this post!!! Belated Happy Birthday!!!!!

I'm sorry to hear about your blood-sugar problems. You are definitely not the only one who swoons at the sight of blood - - I do, too, especially if it's my own. I would make a pathetic vampire.......

When I was a young child I had to get constant blood tests due to severe anemia and possible leukemia. I still cringe at the thought of needles and pinpricks.

By the way, your smug smile is cute.

    1. Thanks greatly, Jon. Your wishes will always be appreciated no matter when they come. That's a guarantee.

It's now coming up to four years since being diagnosed as diabetic. Until now, apart from taking the extra tablets it hadn't made much difference to my life as I was never a big eater of sweets, cakes, chocs etc. But this new departure is a real nuisance that I could have done without. As I type this my start on self-administering is on hold as the pen-like device that darts a pin to puncture the skin so one can draw out a smidgeon of blood isn't working so I'm awaiting another. But there's no way to avoid this 'inconvenience'.
But it's reassuring to find that you're of similar ilk to me as regards feelings on the subject.

I don't care for that photo above but it was the best I could get away with when time was tight - and It's a very long time since I was last called 'cute' - if, in fact, I ever have been. But thanks for that also!

  10. My wont to read blogs on weekends means I am late to the party....
I want to join the conga line of congratulations and wish you many happy returns with your best year yet to come.
    Hugs.

    1. Grateful thanks to you too. Dr Spo. If I can finish this year in no worse way than how it's starting then I'll be happy enough. (i.e. without any further deteriorations or mishaps.)

    1. Thanks, Mitch. Always grateful to have your wishes, especially significant as coming from you.
Now I really could do with at least one more prick in my life - hopefully more (and I mean a non-painful ones!) rather than consign them to being mere memories.
