Could TR*MPelthinskin really run again in four years' time?

Taking the current most likely Presidential election result as a 'given', I see that some of the current One-Term-President's supporters, that is the less out-and-out crazy ones, are saying that he'll be back to win in 2024 - when, incidentally, he'd be even older than Biden is now. But if he's not already by then in prison, or up to his neck and beyond in litigations, when was the last time an American President, having completed one four year term, lost an election yet remained as party leader [for whichever party], but then came back to win a second four year term? I can't recall it happening in my lifetime - and my memory goes right back to Eisenhower. Would a party want to retain a 'loser' as leader anyway? I only ask because so far I've heard of no one asking the question. Maybe it's premature to even posit such a situation? Just a-wundrin'.

    1. Yes, W.Q. I could have looked it up myself but felt I'd rather hear it first from a genuine American citizen. So thanks for that.

I'm afraid that in spite of everything that has happened since 2016, there are still far too many in your country who, once they accept that their side has lost [if they ever will] would enthusiastically embrace the possibility of T's staying on as leader and returning to fight again. In the very unlikely event of it actually happening - I'd guess there'd be far too many obstacles before it could - I suspect that things would have moved on so far as to make his continued looming presence a liability, in addition to his then age. But the chances are getting higher that I myself may well not be around to see whatever happens.

  2. That's not going to happen. Dumped health is far worse than they'd have you believe and I honestly think he had some dementia already, not to mention an Adderall addiction. He'll never hold up to run again.

    1. Jennifer, it wasn't long into his Presidency when it didn't require much observation to make out that he was clearly unhinged - and it's got perceptively worse as the term progressed. Surely everyone - apart from those who actively wish to see the end of the world - don't want such a person ever again to have such a powerful position, including being the judge of whether or not to press the nuclear button.

I look forward to Biden [and in time, Harris], doing as much as he [they] can, without needing the approval of a ludicrously obstructive Senate, to reverse some of his predecessor's calamitous moves, not just on Covid, of course, but crucially on climate change, and being again an active and positive member of NATO, and......well, a very long list.

Oh, and another reason to rejoice - let it be the very last we see and hear of that Pence chap. Yuk!

  3. Trump is too lazy to sustain much success. That is exactly why he was a one-term. Too easily distracted by low hanging fruit. I think he hopes to launch a Fox like misinformation station, but again... he's too inept and lazy to see it through. Will hire all the wrong people (history repeats itself). And yes, let's all hope he ends up in jail and disgraced. I want his whole family behind bars. They are awful, awful people. Have a lovely weekend, dear. We are headed into winter as of tomorrow... a high of 35 degrees on Monday. Sigh. So, will enjoy the day. Take care.

    1. He WAS ['was' -such a delicious word for him!] a 'one-off' - and let's hope he becomes a 'never-again'. Right now he and all his family must be pooping themselves as they queue for the toilet, seeing the very real and imminent prospect of prison coming fast over the horizon. And NO PARDONS please, which would be just as unforgiveable as their own original crimes.

Enjoy your w/e, even if you'll be brrrrr-ing a lot.

    2. I don't think so. It has been written that she is very much the same as her husband, that they actually agree on a lot of issues. And it's clear she has set her own path during their marriage. So shy leave the golden nest?

    3. If she really is like her husband, and we've found out that there's not that much difference in attitudes including putting his/her own interests first above all, then I think she'd have far more to gain by separating. One thing they both do have in common is that they can't stand being bossed around, so what reason would she now have to stay with him being the liability he's now become, with no redeeming or compensating features of status. .

  5. We FINALLY prevailed dear friend!!!! And your hope and words were always welcomed by me at least. The feeling and relief and celebrating is that of when Lincoln, Roosevelt and Obama won.

I have some glimper of hope for happier times and that's all I can take and enjoy right now, which I haven't felt in four years.

    1. I've felt the ups and downs of the last four years, M. [predominantly downs than the other] like for hardly any other 'foreign' country, and it's been a trial for me to try to reign in my own feelings when it can seem enormously arrogant to tell the citizens of somewhere else what to do and feel when we've got so many shortcomings ourselves. But now, at least to some extent, the shackles are off.

  6. Grover Cleveland is the only U.S. president to have served two non-consecutive terms (1885–1889 and 1893–1897), so, yeah, it's possible, but a bigger problem at the moment is him barricading himself in the Oval Office. We may need a commando team to get him out.

    1. One hell of a long time ago, Kirk. It'll turn out to be one of the 'lesser' curiosities T will be remembered for. But there are just too many negatives to eclipse. His enforced removal from the WH may yet be the cherry on top of an ignominious term.

  7. I'm hoping he'll be in prison by then and it won't even be up for debate.

    1. I'm still worried about all the pardons he'll be dishing out while he can, left right and centre, Mitch, at least for those who have been accused and sentenced. Whether he can self-pardon is surely a non-starter now. I dare not think that Biden would even contemplate it.
And then there is that horrible legacy of all those conservative state judges he's appointed, all 200 of them - all male, all white - and all for LIFE. Ugh!

  8. Interesting question but I don't think it's the right one. The real question is "Will he be alive in four years?" Besides, he never expected to win the presidency. So these four years were a gift to him, his group of criminals and the antiquated Electoral College (let's hope it goes away in my lifetime!). He will continue his Tweeting to his followers and maybe setup a rival media outlet to Fox (if he can find some backers from whom he can steal). And the Republicans in Congress who enabled him are now beholden to his cult whose followers will crucify them if they waver. It couldn't happen to a nicer group of people. And then there it Mitch McConnell who is already asserting his power by claiming the Senate will never confirm a "progressive" Cabinet member. But, then, Biden can do what Trump did; appoint acting heads of agencies so they don't have to be confirmed. The question is will an institutionalist like Biden do something like this? Time will tell. Meanwhile, let's celebrate! Bye Trump! Bye Stephen Miller! Bye Betsy Devos! Bye Rudy and Bill Barr!! Happy Days are here again.

    1. Once we were told that he might live to 200 years - and only he could take that seriously it would have been so flattering. I only hope he lives long enough to see him getting a whopping good taste of REAL justice for his malpractices and wholesale corruption, nepotism etc etc. Another 20 years of life for him would be just fine by me - in solitary confinement.

  9. My hope is that he is in jail. He won't be, I know, but I do believe he will be sued, etc. He has been a grifter his entire life; think now the consequences of that are going to catch up with him. So nice to see decent people like Joe and Kamala. I honestly cried tears of joy yesterday. Has been a long, long 4 years.

    1. Now he knows what it's like to be a real BIG-TIME loser, Elle - and it could hardly be any more conspicuous, with nowhere on earth to hide. Looks like even Pres. Putrid may now have turned his back on him, he having fulfilled his temporary function as a convenient 'friendly' puppet who has now outlived its usefulness.
How I share your jubilation, believe me!

  10. What Michael Cohen is predicting is that the awful man will leave for Maralago at Christmas time and simply never return. He will start his own broadcast network (something he considered in 2015, and something that I feel the Russians would be very glad to finance). He will be spewing his seditious lies and will attempt to run again, either himself or one of his children. Probably Ivanka since the boys don't seem to have a brain between them.

    1. All this guessing about how Ol' Grumpy will spend his future time seems to assume that he won't be in prison or drowning in writs for damages/compensation. I've no doubt that whatever his life holds one certain thing that he'll NOT be doing is showing any remorse or admitting that anything at all he did was ever wrong. Such feelings are outside his severely limited emotional universe, and if he recognises such in others it's only as being a sign of weakness.
Yes, there's now talk about his setting up a radio or TV station which he'll not himself by then be able to afford, though having the blessing of supportive Repubs [plus, as you suggest, Pres. Putrid] that shouldn't be too much of a problem.
But all this disguises the one plain fact which he hates to hear - HE'S A LOSER! [Rub it in, rub it in - and don't ever stop!]
