Couldn't get this computer to start yesterday afty and evening. Had visions during a sleep-deprived night of my taking it to repair shop this morning. Been playing around with it since 3 a.m., and then suddenly I got in - but, as is often the case, don't know what I did to achieve it. And now I daren't turn the darned thing off!
So just to let y'all know, especially in the light of recent 'events', that if I'm 'gone' or not available for a while I'm really still here, and that nothing untoward has happened. (At least I hope that'll be true).
No need to write any comments - after all, you've all been here, haven't you?

weird (the computer, not you). how are you feeling today? and how are the pussies?
ReplyDeleteMentally fine, A.M., thanks. But very wary as time approaches when my dentist starts poking around, which is bound to give rise to renewed pain, possibly intense. Appointment mid-day day after tomorrow. However, it's got to be done. I only hope the effects of the pain-dulling injections are long-lasting.
DeleteAs to the computer, as long as I can temporarily get in through a circuitous route in the way I'm now doing it'll tide things over until I can take it to Mr Repair Man.
Thanks again for your concern - really!
I, too, have a habit of fixing what ails my computer but then not knowing at all what I've done!
ReplyDeleteYes, it's maddening. And then there's the frustration of knowing that every time such things happen one is evermore aware of how dependent one has become on it, which is not a happy state of affairs.
DeleteAnd people wonder why I drink gin and tonics when computing. It is maddening.
ReplyDeletehell, honey, you drink G&Ts while simply breathing; it's a natural with you! :)
DeleteAnd I'm still drinking coffee through a straw!
DeleteRay,
ReplyDeleteI take it this is a Windows based computer. I used to have those problems too, mysterious glitches which required me to call my Computer Guy for another expensive house call. I ended that expensive and frustrating nightmare when I got rid of that computer, which was brand new, and got an Apple computer. Remember the advice I gave you when you were thinking about buying a new computer? Hate to say "I told you so." By the way, Paar saw the latest Bourne movie last night. He gave it a ten👍❗️
Ron
Ron, at least with a lap-top I can take it round to the shop myself and avoid the call-out charge.
ReplyDeleteWhen you told me about Apple computers I did do a bit of web-searching and there was no way I had the resources to invest in what you were suggesting. If I had I would have done so. But still hoping I can come out of this little difficulty without too much wallet-pain.
As for ''J.B.' yes, I'd have been surprised if Pat hadn't liked it. So did I too, but maybe without his enthusiasm. But I do wish that I wasn't generally quite as uncritical as he seems to be.
Ray,
DeleteI found that over time I spent more money fixing glitches on my Windows based computer than I ever did on my Apple computers. An initial investment up front and I saved money in the long run because I didn't have to pay my Computer Guy for the all too frequent house calls when my Windows based computer froze up.
Pat loves action films but the have they have to be decently written and produced.
Ron
Ron, it was a choice between getting a not-too-expensive laptop like this one or going completely computer-less. Overall I'm quite happy with it, though I want to see this present difficulty behind me.
DeleteWell, the latest Bourne film doesn't rank as 'bad' by any means so Pat is quite justified in liking it, just as I did.
Seriously now, if something bad should happen to you we would not know what happened. I hope you have some sort of back-up person to let us know of bad news.
ReplyDeleteI only wish I could say that there is someone, Dr Spo, but there really isn't. My sister (who lives 300 miles away) has my landlord's telephone number but apart from that there's no one at all.
DeleteI'm really moved by your asking, but that is, unfortunately, the state of things.
