I won't repeat again here what I said then other than say "each to his/her own". It certainly wasn't a BAD film - I'm glad, though, that you enjoyed it so much.Raybeardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12424095016313843883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-926347286766677626.post-8584124865966115982012-05-20T14:36:44.390-07:002012-05-20T14:36:44.390-07:00just saw a film you may want to consider - "t...just saw a film you may want to consider - "the best exotic marigold hotel". stars judi dench and maggie smith; filmed in jaipur and mumbai, india. Don't know how on earth that happened but it shall be corrected NOW - and I see that I've got a lot of catching up to do!Raybeardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12424095016313843883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-926347286766677626.post-56142004724069145652012-05-16T08:53:23.272-07:002012-05-16T08:53:23.272-07:00Paul, I never heard about Oprah's 'OWN'...Paul, I never heard about Oprah's 'OWN' disaster, but I'm now wiser.

I did see 'La Potiche' but I've found that I gave it a rating of just 6/10 which, after reminding myself of the story, now seems a bit measly. Maybe it deserves a re-watch.
I don't know either 'La Chamade' or 'Ma Mere' but I've now looked up their details also. Pity I don't have a DVD player - and I so dislike watching a film on the computer screen, which isn't physically in a place where I can sit comfortably for more than an hour at a stretch, so it looks like I'm unlikely to catch up on those, at least for the time being. But pleased to know that you're one of us band of film aficianados who are not put off by films in a foreign language. Those who are have no idea of the treats they are missing.
I'll be EXTREMELY interested to know what you think of this 'Beloved' when you catch it up. It could well be that you think higher of it than I did. It was certainly competently made - and the acting wasn't bad - and I never tire of seeing ever-photogenic Paris (my favourite city) on the screen. But do let me know your reaction.

You've sown a seed in suggesting I might post a review soon after each film I see. I might well do that. It would have the double advantage of my not having to decipher my hastily scribbled notes up to a month after writing them down, as well as giving more of a chance for any of my blog-followers to catch them before they disappear from the cinema circuit if they like my recommendation. So thanks for that idea. I don't have many subjects to blog on anyway (such is my dull life), so this might perk it up a bit.Raybeardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12424095016313843883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-926347286766677626.post-23464844975976991222012-05-16T08:20:22.919-07:002012-05-16T08:20:22.919-07:00Cubby, I already knew and was flattered that you r...Cubby, I already knew and was flattered that you read my reviews. But saying that you "adore" them takes it all to another level. No, that really is news to me - and I feel very humbled indeed. Delighted to know that they are providing worthwhile reading - and they may well now come more frequently as a result of Paul's comment below.

Btw: Why have your own blogs practically dried up - or are now very infrequent? I'm sure I'm not alone in missing them.Raybeardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12424095016313843883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-926347286766677626.post-3009599663801677152012-05-16T07:03:59.556-07:002012-05-16T07:03:59.556-07:00I'm glad that you made it clear that this is n...I'm glad that you made it clear that this is not Oprah's boxoffice bomb of 1998. With OWN loosing millions of dollars, another bad review would probably be the straw that broke the camel's back for poor Oprah.

I love me a French film. By coincidence, I enjoyed a week of Catherine Deneuve and Louis Garrel films on Netflix Streaming. "Potiche" and "La Chamade" were the best - just love the style. "Ma Mere was in another league, but a really good piece. So, in spite of the bad reviews this film has received by you and all other reviewers, I'll probably end up seeing it.

I like the fact that you decided to post this review by itself instead of including it in your May summary. May I suggest that you do so with all the films you see in May and then at the end of the month, give them a rating. That way, we wouldn't have to wait so long between posts.paulhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02085842904367441128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-926347286766677626.post-44921837170202442372012-05-16T05:14:23.424-07:002012-05-16T05:14:23.424-07:00I adore your reviews, Ray.
