Even now, with the prompt of reading what I wrote all those months ago I can still barely recall it, which just about says all that needs to be said. Rather a waste of film-making resources is the only conclusion I can now come to.Raybeardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12424095016313843883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-926347286766677626.post-31200690050049463402019-09-03T16:52:17.032-07:002019-09-03T16:52:17.032-07:00I just saw this and wanted to see if you'd rev...I just saw this and wanted to see if you'd reviewed and lo and behold ... you were spot on.
I couldn't make heads or tails of it, really, and din't care to;I only set it to record because I am a huge fan of Ruth Wilson and would watch her in anything!Bobhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15302478126147924237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-926347286766677626.post-68579797212763055682018-09-25T07:17:28.799-07:002018-09-25T07:17:28.799-07:00Pleased that you're another McEwan admirer, Pa...Pleased that you're another McEwan admirer, Paul. I'd better start catching up on those I haven't read before he outruns me.
You know that I generally did like the film of 'Children Act' but I'm a bit mystified by your exalted opinion of it. I found it to be a slightly dark, compelling, well-written novel. Would I read another McEwan novel? Most definitely! Also, "The Children Act" - I have watched it twice and considering buying it digitally for my collection.paulhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02085842904367441128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-926347286766677626.post-65259902958407677912018-09-25T00:54:27.846-07:002018-09-25T00:54:27.846-07:00The Children Act was such a stupid story I should ...The Children Act was such a stupid story I should have remembered it was McEwan. The film might have been better if the boy had been more attractive but I am clutching at straws here. There was definitely something missing that might have made the story more believable.Rachel Phillipshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16053924416805878169noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-926347286766677626.post-41644113129087624302018-09-24T23:41:08.233-07:002018-09-24T23:41:08.233-07:00I'm determined to read more McEwan anyway, Rac...I'm determined to read more McEwan anyway, Rachel, because he's a recent find for me of someone whose writing I admire so much. Perhaps as I read more of his work I'll come round to your way of thinking. I can already sense what you mean about his endings - though as for 'Children Act' I'll have to read that too to discover if the film's unconvincing late lurch is reflected in the way he relates the tale. However in comparison I felt that this new 'Stranger' film was by some way the greater disappointment of the two.Raybeardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12424095016313843883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-926347286766677626.post-63127130783939655242018-09-24T13:12:19.712-07:002018-09-24T13:12:19.712-07:00I went to see The Children Act today. It was only as the credits rolled up that all was revealed to me (I had forgotten): the film was based on the Ian McEwan novel. It explained everything and why I dislike Ian McEwan's books so much, they are always verging on nonsense stories and endings. Sorry to tell you this here but I won't be writing about the film but wanted to tell you. Thank you for the review of The Little Stranger; I had already made up my mind not to see it after the trailer.Rachel Phillipshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16053924416805878169noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-926347286766677626.post-43600421180780583402018-09-24T08:35:05.346-07:002018-09-24T08:35:05.346-07:00I suppose the look of it appropriately reflected t...I suppose the look of it appropriately reflected the moroseness of the story. Now three hours since I returned home, I think if I'd been in the mood for such a surly tale I might have been more favourably disposed towards the film.Raybeardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12424095016313843883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-926347286766677626.post-62757301997843343392018-09-24T08:15:24.817-07:002018-09-24T08:15:24.817-07:00Apart from Wilson, who like you said is a real sta...Apart from Wilson, who like you said is a real standout , it was a bit of a let down though quite beautiful to look atJohn Going Gentlyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14958171262765033946noreply@blogger.com
