My little furry, cuddly menace.

Here's my beloved Blackso who has come so very close to doing me a serious injury several times. Such as yesterday when he was snoozing in Noodles' own place (probably deliberately) I picked him up to place him back in his own usual 'territorial' spot on the settee. But when he's picked up awkwardly he lashes out with his long and very sharp-clawed paws at anything nearby, just to get hold of something and which, as on previous occasions, happened to be my face and neck. It was a close shave - almost literally - the resultant scratches thankfully being only superficial, but it could so easily have been disastrous - serious injury or, conceivably, even worse! Can't blame him, of course (bless his little cotton socks). It's my own forgetfulness in picking him up without forethought that creates the perilous situation. Normally, being much more affectionate than Noodles, he likes being held up to my face and he purrs loudly and rubs his head against my beard as I whisper sweet nothings to him. (He also snores like a mini-foghorn!) Noodles is much more circumspect, only getting lovey-dovey when he wants to eat and, unlike Blackso, will not stay in my lap nor sleep in my bed with me. But I do love them both like crazy. If only they didn't have those little lethal weapons in their paws they'd be....... purrfect!

  1. Awww, didn't you know pussies and gay men don't mix?

How about some pics of you with them? I think I'm going to take some pics of me with my bitch Persephone this weekend. She just had a hair cut this week, so she looks at her best right now.

Have a good weekend Ray xoxo

  2. Larry, I'd actually already noticed that gay men are more likely to have dogs than cats as pets, but if I did have a dog I'd love it not a wit less than I do my two little independent-minded fur-balls. (I was actually born in a 'Year of the Dog' - but any animal you can stroke and/or cuddle would be fine with me.) Very much looking forward to seeing you with your Persy (?) - meantime I'll see what I can rustle up at this end. A fine weekend to you to, pal.

  3. Your Blackso looks exactly like my Arlo. Yes, their claws are lethal weapons, but they always have to be on guard since there are so many predators out there: humans and other animals. Thanks for the picture - always so nice to see the subject of whom you're talking about.

  4. All black cats all look alike, Paul - and I suppose that's a bit of a tautology. Bet over the years you too have been scratched many times, sometimes 'nastily'. Well I suppose it's just one of those risks one has to put up when one befriends such fine creatures - but one gets so much in return.

  5. I'll take the scratches and clawing, because I know they will be outweighed by cuddles, purrs, and lapsits, 10 to 1.

Ray Blackso is beautiful, but I am a bit biased. I have a thing for all black or all white cats. :)

  6. Kyle, I'm a big softie for ALL cats. If I ever say that I prefer one particular type or colour I feel guilty that I've excluded the others, so maybe it's best to have an all-embracing welcome for them all.
