Raybeardless - aged 24

Might as well show this pic off, taken on the same sojourn in U.S.A. as previous blog. (Note the razor-sharp crease in my trousers. I was so 'trendy' then!) Couple of years after this was taken I grew a beard, which, despite pleas from my mum to shave it off, has remained a continuous feature right up to today....... and, oh yes, my note says "Taken on 88th floor balcony (?) of Empire State Building".

  1. Oh, you sweet sexy thing. You look like a model in a fashion advertisement. You must have turned a great many heads on the streets of NYC.

  2. I can see just a little bit of Peter Parker in you. Are you a superhero by any chance?

  3. Paul - I did indeed turn so many heads on the streets of NYC such that on my very first walk out of the hotel within minutes I was surrounded by a menacing group of youths who jostled me and then one held out his palm right in my face. No words were spoken, I just gave him all the money in my pockets. They ran off laughing. A ghastly experience for my first day in America. But thanks for the sentiment of your post anyway.
Larry - I've been called many things but the suggestion of being a 'superhero', albeit facetiously, makes for a very pleasant change. Thanks.

  4. I am so sorry that you had such an awful experience on your first trip to America. You must have been awfully shaken up. Thank goodness you did not get hurt. Did this sour you on ever returning, or did you eventually return?

  5. No, Paul. It didn't affect in the least my view of America - and I'd so much LOVE to return, but preferably with a companion. About 20 years ago I advertised in a gay mag here for someone to accompany me to San Francisco. I met someone whom I, at least, liked - but he told me he didn't think we'd get on well together. It rather took me aback as it was so unexpected. I haven't tried since then - but I WILL return! (Where have I heard that before?)

  6. Simply delightful Ray. Beard and beardless, both states suite you. You do have beauty, style, grace, and charm in the photo. Of course, you still have them all! They don't leave you unless you let them. ;)

Sorry you had such a rough start while you were here, but I'm very happy you didn't let that soil your experience. We hope to make our way to that side of the pond someday. It is funny that if you are an explorer, even if you are happy where you are, you still want to see more.

  7. I've never felt so flattered in my entire life, Kyle - if only I believed you! But I know your thoughts are well-meant, for which much thanks.
Yes, I haven't lost the desire to explore further though it's disconcerting to see not only time running out but also one's energy levels so much reduced. I'm afraid standing around in bars till the early hours and beyond and twirling around in discos are well in the past for me - but one now has the chance to catch up on what one missed before when one's priorities were rather different.
    Best wishes, pal.
